November was a typical month for our LCSO officers who patrol our community.
Detective Kyle Deak initiated six traffic stops during his shift and issued warnings to all the drivers. If you are not aware, warnings are recorded under your driver’s license history. They will show if an officer checks your license and are considered for future infractions.
On November 12, Sergeant Cantrell assisted with a vehicle crash at WCD/Presidential. He also used radar on Whiskey Creek Drive during his shift, which is very typical for him.
On November 16, Deputy Jacob Zavacky issued a citation for speeding.
A couple of other things we need to be aware of:
All Lee County School buses are now equipped with cameras which record drivers not stopping for a stopped bus and recording their license tag information. In the last few weeks, those cameras recorded over 2,000 Lee County drivers breaking the law. The grace period expired December 8, and fines of $225 will be issued after a review from the Lee County Sheriff’s office.
Florida Law says you must stop for a school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop arm on a two-way street or multilane paved road. You must remain stopped until the lights are off, the arm is retracted, and children are safely across the road. Drivers on divided highways with physical barriers or raised medians traveling in the opposite direction of the bus do not need to stop. Whiskey Creek Drive has a raised median between streets but not at the connecting and cross streets so you must stop at intersections even if the school bus is on the opposite side.
On another note, in the Bylaws of the Whiskey Creek Civic Association, it clearly states we are a non-solicitation community. This was voted on by the residents and approved by Lee County and the State of Florida years ago. This does exclude organizations such as the Boys and Girls Scouts who are raising funds for a program selling popcorn and candy or having a food drive. If you are approached by someone selling solar panels or other services, please let them know it is against the law to solicit in Whiskey Creek.
